WCEC19103 - Positive Handling Training for Schools

For Teachers and SNA's

This 3 hour Positive handling training course for schools is designated to assist decision making processes when dealing face to face with the possibility of physical interventions. Positive handling focuses on the positive de-escalation of the behaviour and only employs physical interventions that respect the dignity and rights of the child and are in line with best practice safegaurding policies when a child is an active danger to himself or others. The course is very practical in nature and ensures all staff are competent in dealing with and responding to difficult behaviours.

Defining Positive Handling Non Physical Intervention.

Communication Skills in De-Escalation Restrictive Intervention & Restraint. The Law and Positive handling.

The Safe Removeal of the Child from the environment Preventing a child from self harming or harming others. Holding, Restricting, Immobilizing Techniques, Portection of the Positive Handler during Interventions Situational & Practical Guidance on Controlling the Child Self Protection and Disengagement.

Post Intervention Guidance to restore control Communicating with the class post intervention.
