This course will demonstrate the practical teaching of the Science Curriculum, combining elements of ecology, strands of the Geography Curriculum, horticulture and environmental awareness suitable for all classes in the primary setting.
The schedule will allow for a hands on practical approach to developing a School Garden in a fun and exciting way.
Participants will be encouraged to explore ecological concepts to develop a living outdoor classroom setting where there is a working awareness of biodiversity and to learn how to grow, harvest and cook organic foods.
This will be a lively week, incorporating Garden visits onsite at St. Patrick’s BNS and also to Rossa Campus and Brown Envelope Seeds. There will also be a woodland study in Lough Hyne near Skibbereen.
The course offers ideas for all teachers to adopt and implement with confidence in the new school year.
