Child Protection and Safeguarding Inspections Seminars for School Principals Primary and Post-Primary May 2019

The Inspectorate introduced a new model of inspection called Child Protection and Safeguarding and Inspection in January 2019. This inspection focuses on a school’s compliance with key aspects of the Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post-Primary Schools 2017.

To familiarise principals with the Child Protection and Safeguarding Inspection model, the Inspectorate is facilitating four further seminars with a maximum of 300 places on each.

The seminars will provide an overview of key aspects of Child Protection and Safeguarding Inspection including its aims and its features, the checks conducted during the inspection and Child Protection and Safeguarding Inspection reports. Participants at the seminar will have an opportunity to discuss and ask questions about the Child Protection and Safeguarding Inspection model.

National Heritage Competition for Primary Schools

Dear Principals and Teachers of Fourth, Fifth and Sixth classes,

Please find attached details of a competition being run by The Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. Their new national heritage plan 2030 will provide the overarching policy framework for managing Ireland’s built and national heritage over the next decade.

With this in mind The Department wishes to engage pupils in 4th, 5th and 6th classes to reflect on what our heritage means to them and to represent their ideas through an emoji and to tell us about their emoji (no more than 50 words).

We ask that if you participate in this competition please send a scanned version by email of your winning entries with cover form (a winner in 4th class, a winner in 5th and a winner in 6th ) to West Cork Education centre at: This email address is being protected from spambots. Star Writers Competition

West Cork Education Centre has teamed up with The Southern Star newspaper in organising a monthly writing competition for all primary schools in West Cork.

Each month a theme is announced and pupils are invited to write stories of no more than 200 words on the topic.

Each school entering the competition will please select one entry from the school, type it up and email that entry to us in the West Cork Education Centre at a dedicated email address: This email address is being protected from spambots. Dympna Daly, Director West Cork Education Centre will oversee the selection of a number of entries for publication.The writers of each published entry will receive a special certificate of publication. See also the notice in next week’s Southern Star. The top entries will be published in the Easter edition of The Southern Star.
