Macroom School of Art is seeking a creative and passionate individual to take on the role of Director. As the new Director, you will have access to all the materials, resources, and processes that MSA currently has in place, including a fully stocked arts educational space, a fully functional website and e-shop, a suite of documentation related to grant applications, existing funded projects, and a period of mentorship from the current Director. Key responsibilities of the Macroom School of Art Director will be to:
Teaching Kids/Teens/Adult groups of all abilities.
Ensure the effective implementation, marketing, development, and monitoring of Macroom School of Art and its associated activities.
Identify and obtain external funding through diverse and varied funding bodies. Maintain and administrate funding responsibilities.
Develop, lead, and deliver training for educators, including developing relevant resources, materials and guidelines.
Develop, coordinate and deliver other Arts Education training and networking.
Plan, design, and deliver various Arts Education projects, including leading project teams, budget oversight, and close coordination with schools, community groups' MSA team members, and other stakeholders.
Carry out and contribute to research and analysis to monitor and evaluate the programme as it develops.
Lead and manage a team of educators and artists, ensuring their key role in delivering the Macroom School of Art initiatives is performed effectively, and the required outcomes are achieved. Support the recruitment of new MSA Educators where needed.
Follow procurement processes for selecting and engaging external service providers to the Macroom School of Art programme.
Visit schools/community groups to observe best practices and identify innovative and emerging practices.
Build relationships with strategic partners involved in education and the arts/creative/cultural sectors at a national level, ensuring that these relationships will inform programme systems for project development and management.
In carrying out his/her work, the Macroom School of Art Manager will liaise and work with artists, arts organisations, cultural institutions, and arts practitioners who work at local, regional, and national levels.
Stay informed about and link with arts/creative learning initiatives and examples of regional, national, and international best practices.
Remain up to date on curricular developments and trends.
Identify opportunities that might increase the scope, quality and reach of Macroom School of Art and its programmes. Contribute to understanding diversity and its implications for the creative and educational sector and ensure that this understanding informs the Macroom School of Art Initiatives.
Prepare, monitor and report on programme budgets.
Develop documentation for the accounting, assessment, delivery and reporting of Macroom School of Art processes.
Organise and maintain effective communication both internally and externally.
Undertake administrative tasks, including updating and maintaining courses, to ensure the efficient delivery of the project across multiple platforms.
The ideal candidate will possess various competencies and skills to support the role.
Essential requirements for this role:
Experience in delivering or facilitating high-quality arts engagements to all ages and abilities.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Experience in all stages of project management, from planning to delivery and working within diverse teams.
A strong work ethic, combined with an enterprising approach and the capacity to undertake innovative and challenging projects.
Excellent organisational, management and ICT skills.
Good knowledge of national curricula in primary/post-primary education, particularly regarding the arts.
Good knowledge of the operation of schools, alternative education settings and relevant legislation.
Good knowledge and experience of current national educational priorities, including school self-evaluation and school improvement strategies.
A full driving licence.
In addition, the ideal candidate will also be able to demonstrate flexibility to meet the MSA's needs, including a willingness to travel and/or do evening/weekend work as necessary. Experience in designing, developing, and/or providing continuing professional development for educators through reflection, enquiry, and school-based development is desirable. Knowledge of current and emerging arts education, arts in education research, and policy issues is also desirable.
